Drugs Among Athletes and It’s impact on their Health

Why are so many sports people taking drugs? What are some of the major health risks associated with this practice?

Most athletes and young people take drugs to keep their body strong and active despite knowing it is harmful. There are many reasons which are significant for both athletes and teenagers.  Drugscope (2002) and BMA (2002) agree that steroids and illegal drugs enhance their performance in front of public and keep their muscles strong. Moreover, they desire to increase their physical appearance (BMA,2002; Drugscope, 2002).  According to BMA (2002), sportsmen and sportswomen use drugs because they are easily available in black market. Moreover, it has been pointed out that many athletes are under pressure of public and media, so they use steroids for the desire to win the game (BMA, 2002). However, Drugscope (2002) explains that young security guards take steroids for their self- improvement. There are some main risks after taking the illegal drugs and steroids. It has been observed that illegal drugs and Anabolic Steroids are harmful for the human body because these drugs cause many diseases such as heart attacks and liver diseases (BMA, 2002; Drugscope, 2002). In addition, Drugscope (2002) and BMA (2002) mentions that these drugs and injections create reproductive issues in the human body. Also, Steroids disrupt sleep and become the cause of confusion and depression among youngers in the society (Drugscope, 2002). Moreover, BMA (2002) highlights that many steroid users can go in coma. Most steroid and illegal drug users suffer from severe health diseases so, BMA (2002) and Drugscope (2002) agree that illegal drugs and anabolic steroids should be banned.
