Significance of Shorter Working Hours

Shorter working hours play a significant role in creating an equal and greener society.  t has been observed that we will make strong social connections with family and peers if we spend fewer hours in the workplace. In addition, it has been explained that equal sharing of work creates the chance to reduce long working hours and decrease unemployment (Thomas, 2017). However, Sowton (2016) claims, long working hours grow inequality in the society and he; therefore, supports more equal distribution of work. This becomes the cause of social and health problems in the society. For instance, owing to long working hours, workers are under stress (Sowton, 2016). Additionally, researchers emphasise that companies should stop encouraging workers who do work 24/7. According to Sowton (2106), technology is effective for workers, but companies should not abuse the rights of employees who perform their duties 24/7. This means that to maintain balance between life and work is essential for job holders. As Thomas (2017) and Sowton (2016) agree, shorter working hours reduces unemployment and workers spend more time with children. It creates gender equality in the society. Moreover, owing to lack of travel, climate would be changed (Sowton, 2016). Therefore, shorter working hours decrease greenhouse gasses, and these hours give the chance to workers to stay at home (Thomas, 2017).
